I have always been a visual storyteller. My earliest memories of playing as a child were creating stories for my toys to navigate. The older I get, the more interested I am in how the story is told, who I'm telling it with, and who I'm telling it to. Good design uses all of these things effectively, and this translates to the most impactful way to tell a great story.
The beginning of my college career was focused on illustration and animation. While studying for my Associate's degree, a typography class changed the way I see the world and I never want to go back. I have been obsessed with how visual information is arranged ever since. After learning the software tools, I have found design to be more holistic than I first perceived. I found design through story telling, and now I know that story telling is design. Instead of just brush stroke and color, I use letterform and language along with all the other visual elements to tell the most impactful stories.
I am a self taught, intuitive drummer with a natural sense of rhythm. Music influences everything I do. I have found many parallels between music and design. Composing music reminds me that how you say it matters as much as what you say. As a drummer, I process design through visual rhythm more than anything else. It gives me a unique lens to view the visual world. I see the "beats" and the "pauses," along with the dynamics of each. These pauses are the white space of both music and design.
